We are always keen to recruit dynamic, enthusiastic instructors to our team. We have instructors based all over the country from all backgrounds and of all ages. We pride our self on the quality of our team and would welcome the chance to meet you!
We are the industry leaders in delivering DofE expeditions in the UK. We run high quality programmes for our clients that are based predominantly in the South of England with a large proportion in the South East. 90% of the programmes we deliver are Bronze and Silver Expedition programmes based within reasonable traveling distances of our clients. This means we predominantly work in the following geographical areas:
- At the school sites in London, Berkshire, Hampshire, Birmingham, Wiltshire etc.
- The Chiltern Hills
- The North Downs
- The Marlborough Ridgeway
- The South Downs
- The Peak District
For most, this involves a good deal of traveling so our instructors often have early starts!
Already qualified and want to work for us?
To work on our walking expeditions you will need a recognised walking group leader qualification and experience working with young people.
Canoe instructors will need to hold a BCU Level 2 canoe coach, equivalent or above.
DofE expedition experience is a bonus but not a requirement.
If you are not yet qualified to the required level but are looking to get started in this line of work, shadowing and training opportunities are available.

This is a chance for us to meet you and for you to meet us too! We believe in building long lasting relationships with our staff (and clients). By meeting prospective new instructors on our ISD’s we can ensure the skills and attributes our instructors and our needs of our clients are perfectly matched. We don’t do facebook recruitment 2 days before a job!

Looking for a complete training package to become an instructor?
A to Z Expeditions is offering a unique ‘Instructor Traineeship’ to help you get your foot into the outdoor industry.
This opportunity includes a full training and mentor package for those looking to gain a recognised walking and group leadership qualification.
If you are interested in becoming an outdoor instructor; you have a passion for the outdoors and want to support young people on their DofE adventure or you’re a teacher wanting to support DofE within the school and would benefit from a qualification and experience, then this programme is for you!

What you need:
- A UK driving license and access to a car
- Be 18 or over
- Have a minimum of 10 days walking experience in low level terrain (low countryside)
- Be willing to undertake a police background check to work with young people (DBS)
What we provide:
- A Lowland Leader training and assessment course
- A 2 day ‘outdoor’ first aid course
- Camping/bunkhouse accommodation at the training venue for each part of the course if needed.
- Guaranteed paid work experience as a DofE Instructor with A to Z Expeditions on completion of the course, with ongoing work for the right candidates.
- Ongoing support and mentoring post qualification from our in-house team with excellent progression opportunities.
