Gold Expeditions

Please note:

Attending each part of the programme is compulsory. Participants will be assessed throughout and are required to demonstrate they have acquired the necessary skills before they can move onto the next part of the programme. Occasionally we may need to recommend extra training to ensure participants are fully prepared for their qualifying expedition.

Open Expeditions

If your students or son or daughter is unable to attend the Bronze programme that the school has planned, or if they would like to do Silver or Gold, they may be interested in joining one of our Open Expeditions. Please take a look and contact us if you find a more suitable expedition.

DofE Kit Requirements

We provide tents, stoves, maps, group shelters, group first aid kits and trackers, however participants need to provide their own personal kit and food for the expeditions. We will cover this during the pre-expedition training and further information including a detailed kit list can be found in our “Expedition Preparation Guide”.

Kit is available to hire from the London Borough of Barnet Youth Team – please ask your teachers for more information.

DofE Kit Requirements

Our instructors will be available at the end of the pre-expedition training day to answer your questions.

We have also put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions which may help.

You cannot take part in the practice expedition unless you have completed appropriate pre-expedition training. If this happens your DofE leader will discuss the options with you. Alternatively please contact us.

Yes – but it should only be used in case of an emergency. Please ensure that it is fully charged, has plenty of credit and is well protected from the elements in a tough plastic bag – a zip lock bag would be ideal.

Your group will be given a number of trangia stoves – typically 1 for each 3 participants. The stoves are fuelled by gas which is safe and easy to use. Each stove has 2 pans, a lid and a handle, so you will be able to boil or warm food. You will not be able to fry, toast, roast or oven cook food so you need to choose what to bring carefully.

We will cover this during the pre-expedition training and we will provide you with a copy of our Expedition Preparation Guide which has a detailed kit list. This can also be downloaded from your school website or we can email you a copy if you contact us.

If you have some simple questions or need information before starting your booking please contact us directly via email or call.
