Katie Sutton – Expedition Programmes Manager

Katie is based at A to Z Expeditions HQ and is one of the first people you will speak to if you call the office.

Katie works closely with our clients to plan and launch expedition programmes. She is also a DofE Accredited Assessor and Mountain Leader trained. When let out of the office, Katie loves walking in the hills.

What does Katie say about our her expedition experience?

What is the most memorable expedition that you have been on?
My first solo wild camping expedition in Snowdonia. It was a few years ago and I went back to a place I first visited during my Mountain Leader training week. It’s a gorgeous little spot near Cnicht in the Moelwyns. The experience of being self sufficient and alone for a few days was one I’ll never forget.

If you were doing your Gold Expedition this year where would you go?
I love the mountainous areas of England and Wales but I’ve never been to Scotland, so I would definitely opt for the Cairngorms or Highlands to experience somewhere different. If I could do it on a road bike (touring the Highlands and Islands) that would be even better!

What is the one luxury item that you always take with you on an expedition?
My sleeping bag liner and as many extra warm layers as I can feasibly carry! I hate being cold!

More from Instructor

All of our expedition programmes follow the same basic structure, to keep things simple. But they are also flexible so our tailored programmes can be adapted to each different school or group we work with. No matter what the level of the award, every expedition programme starts with pre-expedition training (usually at the participants’ school or base) followed by a practice expedition and finally, the qualifying. Our fantastic instructors support participants every step of the way.
