Gina Gilbert

Gina Gilbert

Gina is a freelance outdoor instructor, she is an accredited DofE assessor and is working towards her Mountain Leader assessment.

Gina became interested in the outdoors and expeditions at the age of 14 when she joined the Air Cadets and they took her to the Peak District. Since then outdoor activities have been one of Gina's main interests. Last year she graduated from the University of Bedfordshire with a degree in Adventure Recreation.  Gina is also a mountain bike skills instructor.

We asked Gina a few questions about expeditions and these are her answers:

What is the most memorable expedition that you have been on?

My own Gold DofE qualifying expedition.  It rained solidly for three whole days, with very poor visibility to match.  But despite it being hard going, and having blisters, we all completed the expedition.

If you were doing your Gold Expedition this year where would you go?

Cyprus, to do a mountain biking expedition in the Troodos area.

What is the one luxury item that you always take with you on an expedition?

It has to be a pack of babywipes and deodorant.  Being clean is the nicest feeling when on expedition, even if these items do add a little extra weight to your pack!  And I also my Thermarest (inflatable mattress) so I can get a good nights sleep.
