The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The DofE aims to inspire young people undertake an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme.

Participants will need show to persistence, commitment and personal development to achieve an Award.

How does it work?

DofE programmes are open to young people aged 14 to 24.  There are three progressive levels to work through - Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Each level has four sections Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition.  Gold participants are also required to complete a Residential section.

Volunteering

Undertaking service to individuals or the community.  You can volunteer individually or as part of a team.

 

Physical

Improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activitites.  The key is having fun, getting better and fitter.

 

Skills

Developing practical and social skills and personal interests.  Choose to improve an existing skill or develop a new one.

 

Expedition

Planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey.  Developing team work, initiative and self reliance.

 

Residential

Gold programme participants must also do an additional fifth Residential section which involves staying and working away from home and doing a shared activity.  The Residential section must be a minimum of 5 days and 4 nights away from home and the focus can be anything from conservation and charity work to an activity based week.
