DofE Open Silver Walking Expeditions
In order to complete the Silver Expedition section you first need to complete a programme of training followed by sufficient practice expeditions to hone your skills. Once you have completed all of your training you then need to plan and undertake a 4 day qualifying expedition.
DofE Silver Training and Practice Expeditions (Walking)
2 days of pre-expedition training, route planning and a 3 day practice expedition.

DofE Silver Qualifying Expeditions (Walking)
1 day of expedition preparation, route planning and a 3 day assessed expedition

What we include
- Pre-expedition information pack with lots of helpful advice, kit lists etc.
- Bunkhouse accommodation for the first 2 nights of the practice and the first night of the qualifying expedition.
- Camping fees for the other nights.
- Free use of group kit.
- Supervision from experienced and helpful instructors.
- Accredited Assessors for the qualifying expedition.
Group Kit
We provide the following essential group kit free of charge:
- Tents
- Stoves, pans and fuel
- Group shelters
- Group first aid kits
- Maps
Locations
The practice expeditions take place in Monmouthshire in the foothills of the Black Mountains. The Qualifying expedition will take a different route through Monmouthshire and the Wye Valley. The areas are easily accessible by road and public transport.
